This weekend in Pierre, Pierre held a Vietnam Memorial Dedication. It started on Friday and brought 30,000+ people to Pierre. That about doubles the population of Pierre. They had Heuy Helicopter rides ($45.00; free for the Vets). In this photo, the helicopters were taking off from Hilgers Gulch right behind where I work. On Friday we could hear them take off and land all day. They held two concerts, Friday night the Beach Boys and Saturday Night Credence Clearwater and The Steve Miller Band. We didn't take in either concert, but on Saturday night could hear it from our deck. Saturday morning they had a parade. It was a nice parade. The largest South Dakota has ever held. It was nice. It was a little too long for Seneca because 1/2 way through, she went inside my friends house to read books.
They had the dedication ceremony on Saturday where "Big and Rich" came to sing there song "8th of November" which is about a Vietnam Vet, Niles Harris, who they met in Deadwood and became friends with. Big and Rich is originally from South Dakota. They had a traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, lots of venders and various things going on through out town. We decided to stay inside and avoid the overly crowded streets.
